Teclis Foamscan/Foamspin

FoamScan® is designed to measure a liquid’s ability to generate foam by sparging a gas through the liquid. (Foamsspin: foaming by a propeller) It will also determine persistence of the generated foam by measuring variation in its volume, density, and drainage rate.

Liquid samples for FOAMSCAN® are placed in a sample chamber which can be thermostated (optional). A glass column equipped with several pairs of conductivity electrodes is fixed onto this chamber. Foam develops in the sample chamber (by sparging or stirring (Foamspin option) and rises into the glass column where it is viewed continuously by a video camera. Images from the video camera are captured by software along with conductivity measurements at each electrode. This data is used to calculate and plot foam volume and conductivity in real time.

• Liquid fraction in the foam at four different foam heights

• Volume of liquid trapped in the foam
• Foam density
• Bikerman index
• Volume stability of the foam
• Liquid stability of the foam
• Coefficient of expansion of the foam
• Foaming capacity
• Retention parameter (for the RUDIN test)
